Remote production, or REMI (Remote Integration Model), moves the production control room away from the venue: cameras and microphones stay on site, while vision mixing, graphics, recording and streaming happen at a fixed facility connected over the internet. The on-site footprint shrinks from a full gallery and crew to a compact camera team with encoders, which cuts travel, space requirements and cost, typically reducing on-site crew by half or more for the same output. How REMI Works

Each camera feed is encoded at the venue and contributed over dedicated bandwidth or bonded cellular to the remote gallery, where the director, vision mixer and streaming engineer work exactly as they would on site. Comms run over the same links, so the remote director talks to on-site camera operators as if they were in the next room. Return feeds carry the programme back to venue screens where needed. The contribution chain, its bandwidth, latency and redundancy, is the entire engineering question: get it right and the audience cannot tell where the gallery was.

What It Saves

Fewer people travelling: a three-camera show might send four people to site instead of eight or nine. Less kit shipped, less space taken at the venue (a real win where control positions are tight), shorter rigs, and the ability for one senior gallery team to cover multiple events in a week. For recurring formats, quarterly town halls, awards heats, multi-city roadshows, the economics compound.

When REMI Is the Right Call

Recurring events with consistent formats; venues with tight space or short access windows; multi-site events where one gallery switches between locations; and budgets where travel and accommodation would otherwise dominate. When the On-Site Gallery Still Wins

One-off flagship events where rehearsal time with the room matters; shows with heavy in-room interplay, IMAG-critical formats and complex staging; venues with unreliable connectivity; and any event where the client needs the reassurance of the team in the building.
