gassProductions partnered with Haven Knox-Johnston to celebrate the 80th birthday of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston — the first person to sail solo, non-stop around the world. The brief called for a branded video series that captured Robin’s spirit, wisdom and lasting influence.
Project Concept
The concept centred on a 12-part social media series, with each episode running exactly 80 seconds to reflect 80 years of experience. The videos were filmed on the water in the Solent, where Robin sailed alongside British sailor Dee Caffari. Each episode featured a relaxed, intimate conversation — touching on topics such as adventurous meals at sea, environmental change and what sailing really means to him.

Production Approach
From the start, our team developed the series with authenticity in mind. Therefore, we scouted multiple locations to provide visual continuity — whether the episode took place aboard Suhaili, on a marina pontoon or inside Robin’s personal study.
On shoot day, we captured cinematic 4K footage using a multi-camera setup. However, we made sure to remain unobtrusive so that the conversation could unfold naturally. As a result, the dialogue feels honest, relaxed and genuinely insightful.
Post-Production & Distribution
Following the shoot, we edited and graded each episode for consistency. In addition, we delivered mobile-first versions optimised for YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. To maximise reach, we supported the campaign with a content calendar, a press release strategy and targeted email distribution to brokers and the yachting media.
Each film subtly reflected Haven Knox-Johnston’s core values — reliability, adventure, and a deep connection to the maritime world — while building strong emotional engagement with the audience.
